Multi-party video conferencing with contest account & question about video backbone?

Hello Kandy,io,

Two questioons.

1) Does the account level provided with the contest using the promo code give us access to the multi-party video conferencing feature or is that still a paid account only feature?

2) Does the video streaming make use of Genband's backbone and therefore is smoother than "plain" WebRTC streaming? Or is the Kandy API only a point-to-point setup protocol that just makes setting up a WebRTC session more convenient, but not any smoother or reliable? In other words, are Genband's servers helping to stream the video in a video call set up with the Kandy API or not?

Thanks.

    Hi roschler,

    Thanks for your questions!

    (1) Kandy currently doesn't support multi-party video conferencing via the Kandy API, even for a paid account. It’s expected to be available in Q2 2015. As of now, there isn’t a plan to offer this for “free” developer account.

    (2) (Part 1 - Does the video streaming make use of Genband's backbone and therefore is smoother than "plain" WebRTC streaming?)

Kandy currently routes the media through their platform in the US and in the coming months will be setting up additional systems in EU and APAC. This globally distributed system will be able to offer users optimized QoS according to their location. Calls between remote locations can be routed through their fast Amazon backbone instead of public internet.

    (2) (Part 2 - Or is the Kandy API only a point-to-point setup protocol that just makes setting up a WebRTC session more convenient, but not any smoother or reliable? In other words, are Genband's servers helping to stream the video in a video call set up with the Kandy API or not?)

Since Kandy focuses on providing the highest end-to-end user experience their system is currently streaming audio and video through Genband's servers. They will be introducing point-to-point connection soon for scenarios in which local networks can provide better quality of service through direct routing.

    I hope that helps!
    Serena
